Imagine you being dressed up for an interview or a formal dinner, and there is an all-consuming need to scratch an itchy scalp. Also you know that doing so, a cascade of white flakes would follow, onto a jet black blazer-laid bare for everyone to see! Can you realize how embarrassing such a situation could be? Dandruff is a medical problem from which over half the adult population is suffering from across the world. The itching sensation and the white flaky scalp that comes with dandruff is definitely not a pleasant experience. If you are someone who is suffering from dandruff, then here is a good news for you. We have compiled here some of the easy and simple home remedies that can help you fight the problem of dandruff:
Natural Ingredients to get Rid of Dandruff
Table Salt
Table salt is a great solution for dandruff. Its abrasiveness works great for scrubbing out the dandruff flakes. Just take a saltshaker and shake some salt onto your dry scalp. Give your scalp a massage working through your hair. When you find you have worked out the dry, flaky skin, wash it out using a shampoo.
Aspirin
Aspirin has the same active ingredient as many medicated dandruff shampoos, i.e. salicylic acid. Crush two aspirins to a fine powder and add it to the normal amount of shampoo that you use every time you wash your hair. Leave this mixture onto the hair for 2 minutes and then rinse well. Wash your hair again with plain shampoo.
Mouthwash
The anti-fungal properties of mouthwash help prevent dandruff-causing yeast from growing. Wash your hair with a regular shampoo and then rinse off with an alcohol-based mouthwash. This is a great way to treat a bad case of dandruff.
Tea tree oil
A recent study showed that shampoos with just 5% tea tree oil considerably improve the severity of dandruff. Tea tree oil can reduce the effects of many unpleasant conditions. You can add a few drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo as you wash normally.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a tried and true dandruff treatment. Massage 5 tablespoons of coconut oil into your scalp before you shower and let sit for about an hour. Shampoo normally. One can also look out for a shampoo that already contains coconut oil.
Lemon
The acidity of lemon helps in balancing the pH of your scalp, which helps to keep dandruff at bay. Just massage 2 tablespoons of lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. Then mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice with 1 cup water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat this process on a regular basis until you see the results.
Apple cider vinegar
The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it difficult for yeast to grow. Mix a quarter cup apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup of water in a spray bottle. Spritz this onto your scalp and wrap your head in a towel for 15 minutes to an hour. Then wash your hair. Repeat this twice a week.
