Your weight loss program should be based on exercise and a perfect balanced diet. But some people opt for the shortcut to slimming down by taking the weight loss pills. But are those pills god in any way? The answer is no. In the hurry to lose weight, people fail to remember that most of the weight loss pills have side effects which may vary from being mild to extremely dangerous. Here we have gathered the common side effects of the weight loss pills.
The most common side effect of weight loss pill is gastric complaints. There are fat blockers present in most weight loss pills and they lead to indigestion, gas and even diarrhoea. Most of these elements also reduce the body’s capability to absorb vitamins. Vitamin deficiency in the body is a common side effect of weight loss pills and therefore, people on weight loss pills need to take additional multivitamin pills.
There are many horror stories which have shown that weight loss pills can even kill. Weight loss pills contain an element called sibutramine which triggers the sympathetic nervous system. It suppresses hunger but it can also increase one’s heart rate abnormally which can lead to an attack if not checked in time. Deliriums, hyperactivity, high blood pressure, hot flushes and insomnia are the additional side effects of the hunger suppression that is done by most weight loss pills. In fact, some people have reportedly suffered from blood clots that have resulted due to increased blood pressure.
Apart from the fact that some weight loss pills can expose you to the danger of heart attacks, they can also lead to potent bodily discomfort. Not having any control over one’s bowel movements is one such side effect. Increased flatulence and oily stool are some added discomforts that people on weight loss pills might face.
Other Common Side Effects
The most common side effects of weight loss pills are headaches, stomach ache, dry mouth and throat and mouth, constipation and the last but not least you may get addicted to those pills. The concern for maintaining healthy weight is completely understandable in a day and age where lifestyle related diseases such as diabetes and obesity are taking their toll. However, it should never come at the price of one’s mental and physical well-being.
They are Ineffective
Many diet pills are simply a combination of caffeine and other diuretics, which cause water loss. But this is not true fat loss and the water weight will return. Additionally, extreme water loss due to diet pills can cause dangerous dehydration. Long term weight loss requires a change in your eating and exercise habits to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Taking a pill as a quick-fix method won’t encourage you to continue with your normal weight loss program that includes exercise and proper diet. You are less likely to check food labels, record your food intake, and fit in your exercise if you think a pill is going to do the work for you. Taking pills forever is not sustainable and once you stop, you’ll be back to your poor habits and initial weight. From the Web
